Tiwa Savage cancels Johannesburg performance in protest against Xenophobia

Popular Nigerian singer, Tiwa Savage, has announced that she will not be performing at the upcoming DSTV delicious festival which is scheduled to hold in Johannesburg on the 21st of September, 2019.

She attributes the gruesome xenophobic attacks against Nigerians in South Africa by the South Africans as the reason for the cancellation.

She announced the cancellation via her verified twitter account, where she tweeted as follows:

“I refuse to watch the barbaric butchering of my people in SA. This is SICK. For this reason I will NOT be performing at the upcoming DSTV delicious Festival in Johannesburg on the 21st of September. My prayers are with all the victims and families affected by this.”

In similar gesture, the Football Association of Zambia has cancelled the international friendly match between its national team and South Africa on Saturday.

Confirming this, president of the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ), Andrew Kamanga revealed that the international friendly was cancelled over xenophobic attacks in South Africa.

“The game is off, and we communicated that to South Africa Football Association and they understood. We have been talking to try and monitor the situation,” he said.

South Africans commenced fresh attacks, looting and burning of businesses and properties belonging to Nigerians and other nationals and in the process killed not less than three persons.
